Small Steps for Big Impact

When the UK government first announced that a plastic packaging tax would come into effect in April 2022, manufacturers scrambled to find new sources for their plastic packaging. Except for Azpects, who was already three years ahead of the curve.

Saving over 208 tonnes of plastic

Azpects introduced new packaging for our tub products in 2019, using a minimum content of 30% post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic. PCR plastic is manufactured primarily from recycled consumer goods, conserving energy and non-renewable resources.

Recycling replaces the need for primary extraction and the manufacture of new plastics, reducing the carbon footprint of the packaging. Extensive testing ensured that the new packaging meets all requirements for stability, strength, shelf-life, and performance.

Since 2019, Azpects has saved over 208 tonnes of virgin plastic from being used in the manufacture of EASYJoint, EASYJoint Select, EASYGrout and EASYPrime tubs. Additionally, all the tubs can be fully recycled, further reducing the environmental impact of the packaging.
Due to the nature of our sealers and cleaners, it isn’t possible to use PCR in the packaging, but our product development department is committed to investigating all potential solutions.

Saving at least 2 tonnes of paper

Not content with the reduction in plastic, Azpects have also taken steps to reduce the use of paper. A new gatefold brochure has been printed to replace the previous 36-page consumer catalogue, saving 1 metric tonne of paper with each print run. We estimate that this will save at least 2 tonnes of paper a year.

Minimising waste and fully recyclable products

Azpects products are designed to minimise waste wherever possible. EASYGrout and EASYPrime are both supplied as three 5kg bags inside the tub, allowing the user to mix only as much as they require at a time.

All elements of our EASYTileAlign system are fully recyclable; they can even end up in our tubs one day! The levelling caps and anti-friction shields can be re-used from job to job, helping customers save money and the planet at the same time.

Made in the UK

Azpects’ entire product range is manufactured exclusively in the UK.

Jeff Carter, Associate Director of Azpects says, “During this time of economic crisis, it is more important than ever to support British manufacturing. Azpects are dedicated to reducing the impact on our planet and the cost to customers, without hindering product performance.”
