*BS7533 can be achieved if:

Provide washed sharp sand complying with BS EN 13139 (0/4 grading) for cement mortar bedding. Construct the paving in accordance with the relevant parts of BS 7533, including full mortar bedding and installation requirements.

For use with Type 1 hardcore bases. Fibre-reinforced to improve strength and long-term durability. Simply mix with sharp sand and water. Retains permeability to support drainage.

EASYBase 30N Strength Bedding Mortar is a fibre-reinforced cement binder designed to combine with graded aggregates and water to produce a rapid-drying, high-strength bedding mortar. Once mixed, it provides a stable substrate suitable for the installation of floor finishes, including porcelain and natural stone. Engineered for external applications, it can be used for paths, patios and driveways.

Workability: Approximately 45 – 60 minutes depending on temperature

Step 1: Suitable substrates

All properly prepared substrates are suitable for use with a EASYBase 30N STRENGTH BEDDING MORTAR. For external paving, the recommended build-up consists of a 100 mm Type 1 compacted stone sub-base, formed by placing and compacting two successive 50 mm layers to achieve the full consolidated depth.

Domestic Patio: 6:1 | Coarse Sand (0-0.8mm): Azpects EASYBase 30N Strength Bedding Mortar

Driveways: 4:1 | Coarse Sand (0-0.8mm): Azpects EASYBase 30N Strength Bedding Mortar

Step 3: Mixing

Dry mix Azpects EASYBase 30N Strength Bedding Mortar with the coarse sand. Then add small amounts of water while mixing until the blend has a “damp earth” consistency, which usually takes about
five minutes. The mix is ready to use when it can be squeezed into a ball without crumbling.

Step 4: Application

After preparing the sub-base, a minimum 30 mm layer of Azpects EASYBase 30N Strength Bedding Mortar combined with graded aggregate should be applied. For driveways and other heavily trafficked areas, a minimum bedding depth of 60 mm is advised.

Step 5: Coat with EASYPrime

Following installation of the bedding mortar, the underside of the porcelain or natural stone paving should be coated with EASYPrime to ensure optimal adhesion and achieve a wet-on-wet bond with the mortar. For load-bearing applications such as driveways or trafficked zones, a 4:1 mix ratio is  recommended, while a 6:1 ratio is suitable for standard domestic patio installations.

Due to the permeability values of the bedding mortar, users can select any of the jointing products made by Azpects to complete the project, based on your paving, installation environment and skill level, providing the installation methods are followed.
